Quod erat demonstrandum translates to "what was to be shown". Mathematicians sometimes will use this abbreviation at the end of a text or solution to signify that their proof or argument is complete. It's their way of saying "here is my proof, read it and weep!"

Everyone's journey with mathematics is different.  What matters most is not the solution to a problem but your understanding of how you got there.  Knowing that, you will then be able to discover the true wonder of mathematics that is daring to ask questions of your own and pursue it yourself.
